A football parent’s guide:
1 – Encourage
You should encourage your child and all players on the team. Provide constructive criticism if absolutely necessary.
2 – Don’t pressure
Avoid pressuring your child about winning or losing. Remember that your child is there to have fun and that is all they want to do.
3 – Be proud of your child
Be proud of what your child achieves and make sure that you tell them how proud you are of them.
4 – Be aware of your language
Children rely heavily on adult feedback. Make sure that your feedback is always positive.
5- Support
Support your child throughout their development.
6 – Praise
Praise the process and not the result. Praise the effort and hard work that your child puts into training and games.
7 – Respect the coach
Respect and do not interfere with the coaches instructions.
8- Listen to your child
Listen to what your child has to say. Respect their decisions.
9- Develop autonomy
Allow your child to problem solve and make their own decisions.
10- Develop competency
Help your child to feel good about their athletic endeavors.
11 – Respect the officials
Don’t be rude or disrespectful to the officials. Respect what they do.
12 – Don’t shout instructions
Try not to tell your child how to play in training and games. Allow them to be creative and listen to the coaches instructions.
13 – Control your emotions
Learn to control your own emotions. Remember this is just a game and the children are there to have fun.
14 – Show interest
Show interest in what your child does. Don’t sit at training or games on your phone.
15 – HAVE FUN
Enjoy the experience. Inspire and motivate your child to be the best they can be.
